One of the greatest New Year celebrations in the world is had at Copacabana which happens to be one of the best of Brazil beaches.
Leblon and Ipanema are other places which attract tourists during the day as well as the night. Places which are exceptional for water sports like body boarding, surfing and windsurfing include Prainha, Grumari and Barra da Tijuca. Rio Janeiro Brazil also has the Po de aucar or the Sugar loaf mountain to boast of. It gets its name from the way it sticks out of the ocean and stuns you with its sweet emergence. You can get to the top of the mountain by cable car which stops in the middle at Morro de Urca. Each of these spots gives you charming views of the city and sea down below. Rio de Janeiro Brazil travel can be a great idea for a vacation or for those who will be walking down the aisle, a great place for a honeymoon.
Then you have the Corcovado Mountain which is well-known for the statue of Jesus. This place is one of the most visited ones in Rio Janeiro Brazil. Here, too, the view is just lovely and this is a must visit place for anyone who loves adventure and is planning a Rio de Janeiro Brazil travel. The place just waits for the adventurer to come and discover the lovely nature that it holds. If you are a highly adventurous type, you may opt for hang gliding from Pedra de Gavea or Topsail rock which is at a height of three thousand feet landing you below in Pepino beach.
At some of these popular Rio Janeiro Brazil places, if you are lucky, you might even find Ronaldo or Ronaldinho playing Futevoley which is said to be a mixture of volleyball and soccer. Copacabana has the most incredible displays of fireworks in the world at the New Year celebrations. The fireworks display is very well organized from hotel roof tops and from boats far out from the harbor. Even though there might be over two million people, it is a pretty safe and merry event. So you would do well to plan your Rio de Janeiro Brazil travel for the New Year perhaps.
Travel experiences: Exploring our need for out of the ordinary places

The Travel Bug – a (pretend) disease which strikes you after you return from traveling. Something which anyone who has done anything out of the ordinary in a different country will probably have. I am not aware of a way of getting rid of the bug, no tablets or cream. Infact a visit to the doctors will not help at all. My first experience of traveling came when I was just 18years old and decided to go away for eight months visiting Mexico, Peru and Australia and volunteering in Mexico and Peru. My need to experience different countries and cultures came from being a child and being surrounded my different languages through an organization which my mam supported the Eisteddfod. I was encouraged to learn new languages and experience different ways of living.
My Grand Gap Year as I called it was defiantly the best experience of my life and I would encourage anyone of any age to go and travel, it does not have to be for a long time – a week, two weeks, a months is enough it just needs to be something which you would not normally do during a holiday.
I was lucky enough to work in an Orphanage, learn Spanish, teach English, work in a school, travel throughout Mexico and Peru, volunteer at a turtle camp, visit Bolivia and New Zealand, live in a hostel and make some brilliant friends.
My need to explore, learn and discover new experiences has not stopped. I have visited many places on holiday and only last month I visited China for one month to teach English. That was an interested experience also.
For those people who have traveled or have the travel bug after coming home from traveling what I have said will make perfect sense.
For those who have never traveled, are considering traveling or will never go traveling – I urge you to try it at least once. Of course everyone is different but I believe the world is so vast, there are many, many countries with many, many different activities to do, sights to see that there is something for everyone no matter where you go.
So rather than book that same holiday to Spain, you know, the same place you have been twelve times or more book a trip to Greece or Germany, experience Paris or Rome. Visit Machu Picchu in Peru, the rain forest in Brazil, the pyramids in Egypt or a walking holiday in Ireland. Experience life because you really do not know if you will be here tomorrow.
Travel experiences: Hiking adventures

Nearly four and a half centuries ago, Spanish conquistadors, who had sailed to the Americas in hopes of finding riches and fame, arrived on the shores of a strange and foreign place. As they began to explore the diverse terrain of modern day Peru, the Spanish quickly realized that they were not alone. Waiting for them was an empire of massive proportions. Spanning over 2,500 miles, populated by 10 million people, and possessing gold and silver in amounts that the Spanish could never have dreamed of, the Inca Empire was in sole control of the South American continent.
Fast forward to today, and things have changed. Gone are the gold and silver, long ago melted down to form Spanish money. Gone are the magnificent cities sitting atop massive mountains and boasting some of the most advanced engineering seen by humans, now reduced to ruins. Gone are the once proud Inca people, who, with their bare hands, built one of the most prosperous civilizations on the planet.
Though mostly destroyed by the Spanish, some vestiges of the Incas survive today. One example is the city of Choqquequirau. Located in the Vilcabamba region, Choqquequirau is a magnificent city high in the Andes mountains. Once a sacred place inhabited by religious leaders, today the city is a tourist attraction. Unlike the nearby Machu Picchu, however, Choqquequirau is one of the remotest cities tourists can visit. There are no roads anywhere near the city. The only way to experience the majesty of Choqquequirau is to hike for 4 days, traversing some of the roughest trails imaginable, starting from the nearest city of Cachora.
Located 4 hours from the Inca capital of Cusco, Cachora is a simple small town . Comprised of a main square, a school, a few restaurants, and many homes, Cachora is where my journey into the mountains began. After leaving Cusco at 6 in the morning, a long bus ride, and an incredibly bumpy and uncomfortable taxi ride into the city, we found ourselves in the simple Peruvian town. After a delicious lunch our guide, Vincente, a native of Cusco, led us out of the city and towards the ancient Inca city.
Traveling with us was our guide Vincente, a cook, a porter, and two mules. The cook, porter, and mules departed several hours after we did. They are used to the terrain, and know many shortcuts, so they were able to leave after us, arrive before us, and were able to have our meals cooking by the time we caught up with them.
The first day of our journey was a relatively
History and experience of the Inti Raymi festival – Part 3

Well worth the trip is the week-long festival of Peru’s Inti Raymi, located at Cusco’s main square in front of the huge archeological site of Sacsayhuaman with Cusco known as the capital of the Inca Empire. It has more than attracted thousands of spectators and dedicated travelers from nearby and all over the world, so be prepared to be amongst a large crowd. To the Incas who worshiped the beloved Fiesta del Sol in the past, the historical rites of Inti Raymi always played a major part in their lives. For those of us today who also find good reason to celebrate the bountiful seasons and the winter solstice, I have found this to be a beautiful recreation of the historical event held entirely in the Quechua language.
According to the early Peruvians, the winter solstice represented the beginning of a new yearly cycle of rebirth, along with their return to the source of it all by giving tribute to the honorable Sun God Apu Inti Tayta. An animal was always sacrificed to celebrate the new beginning while also paying homage to the Incas, considered the first born Sons of the Sun with many festivities. Fearful the sun would never come back and a future of famine, the celebration was held to plead for the Sun God’s return. For us animal lovers of today, instead of real sacrifices held to appease Apu Inti Tayta, the white llama is part of the sacrifice reenactment of the historical celebration:
“Thousands of actors recreate this epic ceremony, held entirely in the Quechua language. The festivities can be observed from the stones of the Sacsayhuaman in areas that have been set aside for viewing.”
What fascinated me is recognizing that the Inti Raymi Festival is considered the second largest festival in South America, with over 3,000 Peru festivals held annually. With many motives, the majority are held to honor religious celebrations while others focus on the harvests, carnivals and spring seasons. Regardless, I have found the Peruvians to be joyful communities and as long as celebrations are going on throughout the year for one reason or another, the spirits seem to be live and well! Held all week-long with June 24th the centerpiece of the festival, the festival’s main purpose is to ensure the fertility of the earth, combined with light and warmth from the sun to provide a bountiful crop. Dancing, plenty of food, and all kinds of festival activity makes the trip not only a historical adventure but lots of fun.
A region which attracts those of us who are very interested in the area’s historical and cultural significance, Cusco is the hub of tourism for many areas such as the Sacred Valley of the Urubamba River, Pisac, Machu Picchu, Sacsayhuaman, and Ollytantambo. I have found that there were many things to do and see, in addition to the excitement of the week-long celebration of Inti Raymi. Free admittance is provided with rental chairs provided around the main square while reserved seats can be purchased in advance, with positive reviews from its many visitors:
“The Sun was considered by the Incas a divinity, to whom temples were built in his honor in the most important places of the Empire. This celebration is a symbol of the deep bondage between the Sun and his children, the human beings.”
Choose The Best, Book Peru Hotels
Let’s take a tour in North of Peru. Piura is a department located 1035 Km from Lima. This city has a hot climate during all the year, take your precautions. Piura is known for its valleys, deserts, beaches and splendid bays. For example, Sechura’s desert is very popular in the country and Mancora’s district has excellent beaches to spend sunny days. One of the most important heroes in the history of Peru was born in this land, Miguel Grau. Today Grau’s home is a famous museum with lots of visits. He was the hero of the Battle of Angamos in the war with Chile.
Peru Hotels has all what you need in a hotel. Be clever and book your room here. Piura has an important port in its coasts, Paita’s port. Piura is a city that is dedicated to the oil’s extraction and the fish trade. Piura, Talara and Sullana are the main cities in this hot department. Our next destination is close to Piura. It is Trujillo, capital of La Libertad department. Trujillo was founded in 1534 and was one of the most important cities of the Viceroyalty until its independence in 1820.
Today, this city remains one of the most prosperous and important cities in Peru. Trujillo located 560 km north of Lima is also known as “The City of Eternal Spring†and it is home of Marinera, a typical Peruvian dance. Every September, Trujillo organized the Marinera’s National Contest with hundreds of participants. Obviously, local people are the best and usually win the contest. Try to get a list of Peruvian festivities, ask for it in any Peru Hotels.
Trujillo has good beaches like Huanchaco where local fishermen use the popular “Caballito de Totoraâ€. This is kind of a boat made from the leaves and stems of cattail. Finally, don’t forget to visit the Mochica Museum. Peru Hotels recommends visiting Piura and La Libertad.
Hotel review: Rio Hotel and Suites Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada, United States
I’ve never been in Rio de Janeiro, but the Rio Hotel & Suites in Vegas surely portray the festive mood that precedes everything I’ve heard about Brazil.
The brilliant colors everywhere, the sexy uniforms of bar waitresses, the loud music that moves your body even when you are not aware that you are tapping your feet and moving your hips to the to the rhythm makes you upbeat in an instant, even if you’ve been driving all day to get there. (We drove from Rockport Texas to Vegas in two days)
Planning a wedding is a stressful event, prior, during and after. But when you are planning a wedding in Vegas and you live in the opposite coast, it could have gotten out of hands “anxy” but I have to give credit who credit deserves. The Rio made it all perfect! and with no hussle at all.
We decided to marry in Vegas because I had never visited the town before, and also because my fiancee had a three night, four days complimentary stay. I spent a whole month visiting on line every restaurant available in Vegas in a circumference of on or about 5 miles from our hotel. There were many fine options for our wedding reception, yet one stole my heart and got my attention: The All American bar and Grill at the Rio.
Because we, and most of our guests were from Texas, a good grilled steak seemed appropriate for all taste buds, bride and groom included. Reservations were made, voucher was opened, contract was mailed, and the eventful day finally arrived.
because I had been married before, I was sure of one thing, I did not want to spend my wedding day, organizing seating arrangements, decorating the long table we chose near the fireplace, etc. I wanted to be able to enjoy my wedding reception. It surpassed all my expectations!
The menu not only was delicious but served with care and on a timely manner. Presentation of the dishes was artistic to say the least, and the service rendered by the waiter was out of this world. Not only he was “Cruise” level professionalism ( I’ve traveled to more than 71 cities around the world, and the best waiters on earth are the ones who serve on a cruis ship) His timing was precise, his manners and memory; perfect.
While we were palating our desert (carrot cake with cream cheese icing with a kiwi sauce) our waiter gave us a glimpse of his dreams: to be an ilussionist. He performed three tricks for us twenty comensals, and although they were “simple” so I was told, his enthusiasm and spontaniety were welcome and appreciated. I guess that if New York and Los Angeles are the house of actors/waiter, Las Vegas has its share of entertainer/waiters as well.
Usually one you travel, even in the best of trips there is most of the time one or two issues that kind of somehow spoil the perfect trip, not this time, I can’t think of anything that was out of time, out of place or out of budget. Suites were beautiful, slot machines were abundant, tables ( my husband won $700 dollars on our wedding night at the Craps table)were Zizzling Hot! and although I always made fun of vegas slogan: “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas’ in my case it is true; My heart stayed in Vegas as one of my favorite destinations in this part of the world. The Rio? NUMERO UNO in hotel experience.
Why Travel To South America
Why travel to South America? The continent has some of the worlds friendliest people, and attractions to suit all tastes. Here are some ideas with regards to just a few of South America’s amazingly diverse travel highlights.
Iguassu Falls is on the border of Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina. For many this is South America’s number 1 travel highlight. The roaring waterfalls are truly enormous in size – try to visit during the wet season for the most impressive panoramic views. There’s also good birdwatching and jungle lodges in nearby Argentina.
Argentina’s (and indeed Chile’s) Patagonia region is a beautiful land of lakes and mountains. This area is an outdoor enthusiasts dream, with excellent hiking, fishing, rafting, horseback riding and other outdoor activities being possible. The region is huge, and highly varied: Bariloche id popular for golf, fishing and trekking; El Calafate offers some bleakly beautiful landscapes and stunning glaciated National Parks; and the Valdes Peninsula is a great region for spotting wildlife such as seals, sea lions and whales.
Peru’s Nazca Lines date back to 900 BC it is believed. These incredible lines are of images etched into the desert – from the air it’s best to spot the various sketchings. Images are found of various animals, including birds, dos, monkeys and spiders. It’s asll shrouded in mystery, and no-one really knows how the drawings got there.
Ecuador is an immensely biodiverse country, and it’s rainforests are some of the most easily accessible in South America. Ecuador’s Amazon region has the pick of luxury jungle lodges, where activities offered to tourists usually include rainforest tours, piranha fishing, wildlife watching, birdwatching, night time caiman watching tours and more. Elsewhere in Ecuador, Mindo also has some great jungle lodges and is one of South America’s top birdwatching destinations.
One of the most beautiful and romantic colonial cities in South America is undoubtedly Cartagena, in Colombia. The fact that the city is still not overrun with tourists simply adds to the charm. Cartagena is well away from Colombia’s trouble spots, and has long been a safe city to visit. Many cruise ships now make a regular port of call – and visitors are enthralled by the cobbled streets and beautiful plazas and monuments dating from the colonial times. While the cities beaches are rather unclean and hectic, the nearby Rosario Islands offer a perfect beach retreat.
Some of South America’s most amazing white sand beaches are found at Park Tayrona. The landscape could be described as an empty tropical beach paradise, full of beautiful bays and coves. The fact that there is only one hotel (though lots of camping options) keeps the tourist hordes away – at Park Tayrona you can experience a paradise without seeing another soul all day.
Many people travel to Venezuela for just one reason – to visit the waterfall of Angel Falls. At 979 metres in height, Angel Falls is the worlds highest. A flight over Angel falls is a quite spectacular experience, or alternatively canoe trips can be arranged to see the falls at close quarters. The landscape in nearby Canaima National Park is also quite beautiful – this is where the Last of the Mohicans film was shot.
South America’s immense diversity means a truly memorable holiday is possible for all.
Don’t Blame Canada For Your Vacation Doldrums

Have you ever wondered about that mystery land up North? You know, the one where people talk a little differently, are supposedly nicer, and are inexplicably cheerful in the face of months and months of unbelievably cold weather? If Canada has ever caught your eye or captured your imagination, perhaps its time to pay this northern neighbor a visit.
It is the second largest country in the world, so not even the most hard-core travelers have seen very much of this maple-leafed land. You probably find the idea of a visit overwhelming, considering that you don’t know where to start or which way to go from there. It’s best to take a moment to examine your vacation goals, and everything will surely begin to fall into place from there.
In spite of the fact that this country is pretty rough and rugged across most of its acres, city lovers will find plenty of intriguing options here. Ignore the uppermost reaches of the nation and think cosmopolitan; Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver all have well over a million people and will give you a taste of urban life that’s part European, part American, mostly Je ne sais quoi.
Toronto is the busiest bee of Canada, filled with businesses, residential areas, sports arenas, and anything else that “regular†cities have. What’s different about Toronto is that it is a melting pot of nationalities and historic settlements that have come together brilliantly. A large number of people who live here weren’t born here, making for a fascinating and exciting cultural atmosphere.
Visitors to Toronto will thus feel at home, as you’re sure to run into a familiar influence somewhere in the city no matter where you’ve come from. Check out the skyline, relax on the beach, walk or bike through downtown, or take in a hockey game or a play. This worldly city offers countless world-class entertainments, so be sure to keep your eyes open and your itinerary flexible. You never know what you’ll end up doing, but it’s sure to be an adventure.
If you’d like to get a feel for an older side of Canada, make a stop in Montreal. Quebec’s largest city and considered to be one of the most cultured and attractive in the world, this heaven for francophones will wow you with its constant delights. If you come in the summer, take advantage of the pleasant weather and make walking your primary means of getting around. Old Montreal is made up of cobblestone streets and buildings erected hundreds of years ago. Wandering this area will be like traveling back in time, and you’ll truly feel like you’ve crossed the ocean to a lost European town.
To truly immerse yourself in the culture of either of these cities, or one of Canada’s other metropolitan hotspots, then consider renting a loft located in the heart of all the action. Blend into the diverse crowds and live like a Canadian for a few days, enjoying the view from your trendy apartment and stocking your kitchen with local fare. There’s no better way to forget your current stresses than by living incognito for an extended break, so assume a new identity and head for the big city.
Another aspect of Canada that begs to be enjoyed is its untamed wilderness and incomparable scenery. Regions like Mont Tremblant in Quebec and the coastal islands of British Colombia are simply incomparable. Ski vacations in the winter or languid summer sessions by the sea will surely meet anyone’s expectations for what a vacation should be, so if you’ve always thought of Canada’s terrain as mostly hostile or boring, think again.
You might see a moose or two, thus reinforcing a persistent stereotype, but nothing else will allow this to happen. Lush gardens, whale sightings, farmer’s markets, and fine restaurants will all beg to fill your days, so plan to stay a while to properly appreciate everything.
Do this by settling into a quaint cottage in view of the water, with the sandy beach as your backyard and rooms filled with every comfort you can imagine. Or perhaps, if you are brave enough for a winter visit, claim a slope side cabin that will make skiing seem the most natural thing in the world. Choices abound, so do a little research and start planning the kind of vacation that other people dream about but never take.
There are plenty of Canada vacation rentals to ponder, so go online and take a look. You’ll be breaking the mold by heading to this welcoming and possibility-filled land, so be sure to do it in style.
