!Vivo Vido!, as they would say in Brazil, or live your life, is what this destination is all about-excitement, discovery and beauty.
Brazil is a country of great diversity, from the bustling urban center of So Paulo to the unending cultural energy of Pernambuco and Bahia, the enchanted wilderness of the Amazon rainforest and the some of the world’s most beautiful natural displays, like the Iguau Falls, there is plenty to see and to do in Brazil.
Some things you should know before you go to Brazil are don’t “act like a tourist” or you may end up paying extra at other wise cheap eateries. Even expect to pay more than the locals for services like parking.
So, what can you do to blend in? Pick up some Portugese before you go. Knowing a little will go a long way. Most of the country speaks Portugese, but if you head to the deep south expect to hear some Spanish along the way as well.
Find where the locals are at. Checking out places where they go will always save you money and will give insight into the real cultural identity of the place you are visiting.
Planning to visit the Copacabanna beach? This beach is packed with tourist attractions, but get some more local flavor and save. Just a few blocks from the beach you can find residential areas that also have great local restaurants with authentic Brazilian cuisine. If you get the chance, try pumpkin shrimp, “pouco peixes com Abobora.” It’s delicious.
You’ve heard the old adage, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.” While your in Brazil this is the best travel tip- find out where the locals are and what they are doing, and do it. Let go of your inhibitions and get to really know Brazilian culture and the “Cariocas,” Rio De Janiero natives, to make this a trip of a lifetime.
