I am in Rio de Janeiro, a city that is alive with exuberance, sunshine and beautiful people; and great restaurants. If you are a meat lover and have never eaten at a Churrascaria it would be worth a trip to Brazil to do so. For a very reasonable set price you can eat meat, meat, meat until you can eat no more. Great cuts, still sizzling, rare to well done brought to your table on skewers by waiters who are dressed to kill.

When you enter you are given a card that you place by your plate. On the green side it says “Sim Por Favor” or “Yes Please” and on the red side it says “Nao Obrigado” or “No Thanks”. If your card is green they keep coming with meat. You have your own set of tongs with which to take your meat as your smiling waiter slices the cut you prefer.

If you want a little break or maybe just a change of pace you can visit the huge all you can eat buffet which is included in the price; for sushi, salad, a fish or chicken dish and more, you just turn your card to the red side until you are ready for more meat.

For an extra charge you can order side dishes for your table; french fries, onion rings, deep fried bananas, and fried cheese and don’t forget to try a Caipirinha, the favorite local drink or an icy cold Skoll Beer.

Finish with one of a fantastic selection of desserts and Brazil’s incomparable coffee and believe me you will have had a meal to remember all for an average price of $20.00 Canadian per person.

Throw in the large and wonderfully happy groups of Brazilians who look upon eating out as one of the greatest reasons to celebrate, they are loud, they are boisterous and if there is a soccer game on they are cheering or booing with every play, men, women and children alike, and you will have had a dining experience that will have you coming back again and again.

The Churrascaria is not for the feint of heart, for one who wrinkles ones nose at huge slabs of meat as far as the eye can see. It is not for those of you who prefer the quiet and secluded atmosphere of a romantic evening out. But if you want a unique and satisfying dining experience, if you love meat and you love people then you should consider the South American Churrascaria, You will not be disappointed.

It is said that the carnival has its origin in pre –Christian festivities which were held by the Greeks and the Romans in honor of Dionysus, the god of wine. In time, the carnival evolved and lost its orgiastic features, becoming an important tradition which gives Brazilians the opportunity to have a good time. The samba parades represent the most important attraction of the carnival, being of utmost importance for Brazil’s tourist business. The carnival takes large proportions in Rio de Janeiro and in Salvador de Bahia, which is said to be the heart of the carnival.
