Trip to the Hispanic Heritage Festival

Today I went to the Hispanic Heritage festival in my town. The local Hispanic community had worked very hard for months to put this festival together and part of all the proceeds from raffle tickets and vendor fees would be donated to the cancer society. I had never been to any Hispanic event in my community even though our Hispanic population has more than doubled in the past ten years, but I thought that it would be a neat festival to spend a Sunday at.

The festival was a lot of fun, my favorite part was that all of the Latin restaurants in the county had booths set up where for a cheap price you could sample some of their most popular Latin dishes. Many were delicious and I have to say that now I have many other Latin restaurants that I want to try.

There was also a lot of Hispanic music playing in two of the stages. My favorite one was the stage was the one in which musicians were playing Latin Salsa. Although I did not dance, there were many Hispanic and non-Hispanic couples dancing the day away. The other stage was playing Latin Rock and although I did not like it as much as I liked the salsa, I thought the music was pleasant.

My other favorite stop was visiting all of the Latin vendors, they all sold unique gifts imported from many different places in Latin America. I found out that one of the vendors only imports fair trade knit scarves and gloves. Although it is too early for winter, I bought a pair of these gloves to support fair trade in Latin America. There was also a raffle and the raffle host was an older Latino man in his 50s, but he was so funny. I did not win anything, but the man’s jokes were all worth it. I have to say that I went home happy, with new gloves, a new list of restaurants to try and I can say that this will not be the last Hispanic festival I attend.
